Babylon IDA looks to tap into success of craft beer industry

There are incubators for all types of fledgling businesses, but now the Babylon IDA has announced it will be providing space for a new type of entrepreneur: craft beer brewers.

In an announcement earlier this month, IDA Chief Executive Officer Matthew T. McDonough said the IDA will purchase, revitalize and equip a former missile-component test facility at 1305 Strong Ave., Copiague into the state's first business incubator dedicated to craft beer.

Something big is brewing in Babylon.

The Town of Babylon Industrial Development Agency has unveiled a plan to convert a blighted building into the state’s first business incubator dedicated to craft bar.

The IDA would spend $12 million to buy, revitalize and equip a former missile component facility at 1305 S. Strong Ave. in Copiague.

“We look forward to the possibilities it could hold for start-up brewers and the future of the craft beer industry on Long Island,” Babylon IDA CEO Matthew McDonough said in a written statement.

New York State's first business incubator dedicated to craft beer could be built on Long Island thanks to a $12 million project proposed by the Babylon Town Industrial Development Agency.

The agency plans to transform a derelict former missile-component test facility in Copiague into a multitenant production facility and tasting room for brewers, said Matthew T. McDonough, chief executive of the IDA.

$125,000 in grants for affordable rental construction in Copiague

A housing group in Centereach has received two grants totaling $125,000 to support the proposed construction of affordable-rental apartments in Suffolk County.

The Community Development Corp. of Long Island received $100,000 from the TD Charitable Foundation to help fund two proposed complexes: 90 apartments in Copiague and 48 in Riverhead, the Centereach-based corporation said in a statement Monday.
