Long Island is set to enter Phase 2 of reopening next week, and many municipal governments are looking to streamline the process of allowing businesses like restaurants to use outdoor spaces.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo confirmed that Long Island is on track to hit Phase 2 Wednesday, meaning restaurants can have outdoor dining with tables 6 feet apart.

In the Town of Babylon, they're expediting permitting to allow restaurants to use as much outdoor space as possible within safety guidelines. They're also helping with procuring sanitizing supplies.

"So on day one, they will be able to hit the ground running and know what they can do to get tents up, to get chairs and tables in place," says Babylon Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer.

At Restoration Kitchen and Cocktails in Lindenhurst, owners say to-go orders have been keeping the lights on. But Phase 2 will give them another opportunity to keep their heads above water -- they will put 19 tables in their parking lot and around the building.

"Big difference. And it gives us a fighting chance," says Billy Miller, of Restoration Kitchen & Cocktails. "To be able to have the opportunity to have people 'in our doors' is the opportunity to keep us open and keep us alive."

Hair salons, real estate offices, car dealerships and in-store shopping will get the green light as well. But to make Phase 2 work successfully, officials say it will be up to the public to follow social distancing guidelines.
